Cape Roadtrip

The route: A round trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town via the Garden Route.

The reason: We wanted to catch up with friends in Cape Town and decided to explore the Karoo while we were at it.

How we travelled: In a tiny rental car, with camping gear.*

Travelling style: Vague itinerary only, no timeline, no prior bookings, no GPS, no smart phones or data, an AA map and "Camp and Caravan" guide.

When we travelled: November / December 2016

• Day 1 - Johnnesburg to Parys: As far as the Vaal
• Day 2 - Parys to Gariep Dam: Boats in the Karoo
• Day 3 - Gariep Dam to Somerset East: Criss-crossing the Karoo
• Day 4 - Somerset East to Addo Elephant Park: Elephants in the Fynbos
• Day 5 - Addo Elephant Park to Bloukrans: From Bush to Beach
• Day 6 - Bloukrans to Sedgefield: The world's highest bungee
• Day 7 - Sedgefield to Prince Albert: Coast to Karoo
• Day 8 - Prince Albert to Oudtshoorn: Back-tracking
• Day 9 - Oudtshoorn to McGregor: The Night Sky is free
• Day 10 - McGregor to Hermanus: Touching the tip of Africa
• Day 11 - Hermanus to Cape Town: Cool & Quirky
• Day 12 - Cape Town: Hot & Bothered
• Day 13 - Cape Town to Wolseley: It's a Sign
• Day 14 - Wolseley to Karoo National Park: Karoo Sunday
• Day 15 - Karoo National Park to Petrusberg: Sleeping with Lions
• Day 16 - Petrusberg to Johannesburg: Full Circle
